Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Nonye Soludo, cast their votes on Saturday at the Ofuiyi Polling Unit 002 in Anambra State during the ongoing gubernatorial election.
The couple arrived at the polling station in the early afternoon, underscoring their commitment to participatory democracy. According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, they were warmly received by electoral officials and a crowd of enthusiastic supporters eager to witness the process.
After undergoing verification and authentication, the Governor and his wife cast their ballots, a symbolic act reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility in shaping the future of the state.
Governor Soludo described the election atmosphere as peaceful and well-organized, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its professionalism and coordination. He noted that early reports from polling units across the state indicated minimal disruptions and impressive voter turnout.
“We are witnessing a true expression of democracy today,” Soludo said. “It is heartening to see citizens coming out to exercise their right to vote in such a peaceful environment.” He urged eligible voters to participate actively, emphasizing that every vote counts in determining Anambra’s future.
While expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the election, the Governor raised concerns about isolated incidents of vote buying in Nnewi South Local Government Area but expressed optimism that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), would emerge victorious.
Observers reported that the calm environment at Ofuiyi polling unit was replicated across many parts of the state, with voting proceeding smoothly and without major disruptions. Voters also expressed confidence in the credibility of the process.
As results began to trickle in from various polling units, early indications showed APGA taking a lead in several areas, though official results are still awaited. Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding transparency and ensuring strict adherence to electoral laws throughout the process.
