In a show of commitment to corporate social responsibility, Fidelity Bank Plc has extended vital support to residents of the Makoko waterfront community in Lagos through the donation of boats, educational materials, food supplies, and other essential relief items.
The initiative was executed by the Achievers Inductees Class of 2025 under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP)—the bank’s staff-led CSR platform that enables employees to identify pressing community needs, mobilize funds, and receive matching contributions from the bank’s management to implement impactful projects.
Speaking during the presentation, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, reiterated the bank’s unwavering commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development.
“At Fidelity Bank, we believe that when communities thrive, businesses prosper. Our commitment goes beyond banking; it is about improving lives, supporting education, and creating opportunities for growth. This donation reflects our dedication to nurturing the next generation and contributing to a more sustainable future,” Nwagboh stated.
Expressing gratitude, the traditional leader of Makoko, Baale Shemede Emmanuel Ajakaekun, commended the bank for its thoughtful intervention.
“We are grateful that Fidelity Bank came down here to support us. May their work continue to flourish, and may God lift them higher. We hope they will not forget us but come back again to support our people,” he said.
Also appreciating the gesture, Shemede Taiwo, Proprietor of the Part of Solution Orphanage, Nursery and Primary School, described the donation as transformative for children and residents alike.
“Many children here struggle to attend school because boats are expensive to build or hire. Fidelity Bank’s donation will make a huge difference in ensuring our children get to school safely and in improving the welfare of our community,” she said.
The Makoko outreach follows the bank’s recent FHHP project at the Old People’s Home in Yaba, Lagos, further demonstrating Fidelity Bank’s consistent commitment to people-centered and environmentally conscious community development.
Ranked among Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, Fidelity Bank Plc serves over 9.1 million customers through its digital platforms, 255 business offices nationwide, and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.
The bank has earned several local and international recognitions, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award by BusinessDay’s BAFI Awards, Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application by Global Business Outlook, and Most Innovative Investment Banking Service Provider by Global Brands Magazine. It was also named Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria by the Euromoney Awards for Excellence and Export Financing Bank of the Year by BAFI.
