The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking another high-profile shift to the ruling party.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yelwata, also from Plateau, made the announcement at the party’s 14th national caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. He noted that with Mutfwang’s defection, APC now governs the entire North Central region.
Mutfwang, who was elected under the PDP in the 2023 general elections, joins a growing list of senior politicians leaving the opposition party for APC.
During the meeting, Yelwata also set January 30, 2026, as the deadline for all party members to complete electronic membership registration. He stressed that the system, which has already begun rollout nationwide, would enhance transparency, data integrity, and internal democracy.
“We’ve done training at the state, zonal, and local government levels in most states. I urge all stakeholders to support this nationwide rollout,” Yelwata said. “Both new and existing members should register themselves and their supporters on the portal. This must be completed by January 30 in preparation for upcoming congresses.”
The caucus was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC governors including Peter Mbah (Enugu), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), as well as past governors, national party leaders, and other stakeholders.
