Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has sworn in Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government.
Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, had been acting as chairman following the resignation of the former council boss, Tunde Azeez, who stepped down on health grounds. His swearing-in on Monday formalised his assumption of office and responsibility for the administration of the local government.
At the ceremony held at Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu also swore in Mrs. Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa as Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI).
Addressing the appointees, Sanwo-Olu said governance in Lagos State is anchored on appointing capable and trustworthy individuals who see public office as a call to service rather than a platform for personal privilege. He stressed that leadership in the state, whether political or technocratic, would continue to be guided by the will of the people and a commitment to results-driven governance.
“Leadership in Lagos State is defined by service, discipline and results. The offices you now occupy are not rewards; they are responsibilities,” the governor said, adding that Lagos residents expect diligence, integrity and tangible impact from public officials.
Sanwo-Olu also urged members of the public service and political class to uphold excellence and dedication to duty, noting that merit and commitment remain central to appointments in the state.
In his remarks, Obasa pledged to run an inclusive and united administration in Agege, disclosing that reconciliation efforts within the All Progressives Congress and across the local government had been ongoing since the party’s primary election.
Anjous-Ademuyiwa, on her part, expressed appreciation to the governor for her appointment and promised to contribute to the growth and development of Lagos State through her new role.
