Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has reportedly returned to Britain following a fatal car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two members of his team.
According to The Sun, the boxer arrived at London’s Stansted Airport aboard a private jet on Friday evening. His return comes days after Nigerian police charged the driver involved in the accident, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, with dangerous driving causing death. Kayode is expected to appear in court on January 20.
The crash occurred on Monday along the busy Lagos–Ibadan highway in southwest Nigeria. Police said Kayode was driving a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and team members Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck.
Ogun State authorities confirmed that Ayodele and Ghami died at the scene, while Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries. Ghami was Joshua’s long-time strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele served as his personal trainer, British media reports said.
Joshua, a 2012 Olympic gold medallist with family roots in Nigeria, was in the country on holiday following his victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19.
