Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, on Saturday called on Iran to exercise caution following a series of missile and drone attacks targeting the kingdom.
The Saudi defence ministry reported that multiple missiles aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base, which hosts U.S. military personnel, were intercepted and destroyed. The ministry also said drone attacks at a major oil field, including at the Shaybah facility near the UAE border, were successfully thwarted.
In a post on X following a meeting with Pakistan’s military chief, Prince Khalid said the discussions focused on “Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and the measures needed to halt them.” He added, “We stressed that such actions undermine regional security and stability and expressed hope that the Iranian side will exercise wisdom and avoid miscalculation.”
The attacks come a week after joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran triggered wider regional hostilities. Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, reported at least two drone strikes earlier this week targeting its Ras Tanura refinery in the east.
The official Saudi Press Agency confirmed at least 17 drones were intercepted near Shaybah and two additional drones east of Riyadh, all destroyed before causing damage, according to the defence ministry.
