By Ayomide Otitoju

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over ₦279 million to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts during the trial,” the EFCC statement said.

Speaking at the handover, EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede, represented by Acting Lagos Zonal Director ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, urged the Centre to use the recovered funds responsibly.

“We cannot recover this money for you only for it to be misused. We will periodically inspect the projects funded by these resources,” he said.

The Centre’s Head of Finance and Accounts, Jatto Kabiru, expressed gratitude to the EFCC and pledged to use the funds judiciously.

The theatre was renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in July 2024 in honour of the Nobel Laureate. Its renovation was funded and overseen by the Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee, with policy guidance from the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, transforming it into a national hub for Nigeria’s creative industries.
