The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured that the upcoming Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) 2026 and the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2027, both to be hosted in Lagos, will set new standards as the best of their kind on the African continent.

Sanwo-Olu made the pledge on Monday during the signing ceremony for the Hosting Agreement of IATF 2027, organised by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Iganmu, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the governor highlighted Lagos State’s commitment to making both events “masterpieces” that showcase Africa’s economic and creative potential. He said the IATF 2027 would provide a historic platform to boost intra-African trade and investment.

“We will ensure that CANEX 2026 and IATF 2027 reflect the energy, vibrancy, and leadership of Lagos as Africa’s commercial and entertainment hub,” Sanwo-Olu said. “The President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is fully committed to this event, and we will work tirelessly to ensure Nigeria represents Africa very well.”

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chairperson of the IATF 2027 Advisory Council, commended the Federal and Lagos State governments, as well as private sector partners, for their support in securing Nigeria as the host country.

Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to host the fair, emphasising the event’s potential to strengthen the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Marketplace, build business trust, and generate job opportunities across the continent.

Representatives from the African Union Commission and AfCFTA also expressed their commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure the success of IATF 2027.

The IATF, Africa’s largest trade and investment fair, and CANEX, the continent’s premier creative economy showcase, are expected to draw international attention and participation, reinforcing Lagos’ position as a strategic hub for African trade and innovation.
