Gunmen have killed several military and police personnel, along with civilians, in an ambush at Giro Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, reportedly claimed the lives of an unspecified number of security operatives, as well as two residents of the community.
Sources said the assailants had been operating within the area before security forces tracked them to a construction company yard. Acting on a tip-off from residents, troops were deployed to the location but were ambushed by the gunmen while en route.
The attackers also reportedly set two military gun trucks ablaze during the assault, intensifying the scale of the violence.
Residents, who spoke anonymously, described the incident as chaotic and deadly. One resident said the gunmen had entered the village and were heading towards the construction site when locals alerted security personnel, who were subsequently ambushed.
