The Ogun State Government has approved a one-day weekly off-duty arrangement for public servants, alongside a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for three months as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel costs.
The announcement was contained in a statement by the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, who said the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on workers following the recent increase in fuel prices and its effect on transportation and living costs.
According to the statement, essential workers—including medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security operatives, and key administrative officers—are exempted from the one-day-off arrangement but will still receive the transport allowance.
The government explained that accounting officers in ministries, departments, and agencies will determine the specific off-duty day for eligible staff to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Onasanya said the measure is designed to improve staff welfare and boost productivity, while urging workers to respond with greater dedication and commitment to public service.
