President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council, directing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, to hand over to their designated successors.
The directive was contained in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, which confirmed that both ministers are to conclude handover processes on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
According to the memo, Edun is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been designated to assume office as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance and chaired the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee.
Similarly, Dangiwa is to hand over to Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been appointed minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in a statement signed by his media aide Yomi Odunuga, said the changes are aimed at improving coordination within the cabinet and strengthening delivery under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in approving the reshuffle and expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation.
Wale Edun, an economist and former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, was appointed in 2023. He has a background in banking, investment management, and public finance, and previously chaired Chapel Hill Denham Group.
His successor, Taiwo Oyedele, is a fiscal policy expert and former PwC Africa Tax Leader. He was appointed in 2023 to lead reforms on fiscal policy and taxation and holds degrees in accounting and applied accounting, with further executive training from global institutions including Harvard Kennedy School.
