New Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has pledged to rebuild a strong culture of discipline, responsibility and ambition as he begins his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
Speaking on Friday as he supervised preparations for the club’s pre-season campaign, Mourinho said his priority is to create an environment that will help players and staff perform at their best.
The Portuguese tactician, who was appointed in June to succeed Alvaro Arbeloa, said he was focused on serving the club rather than pursuing personal achievements.
“I am here to help everyone become better—players, staff and the entire club. My mission is to build a culture of hard work, responsibility, ambition and the honour of working for Real Madrid,” he said.
Real Madrid failed to win a major trophy over the past two seasons, with Mourinho’s return widely viewed as an effort by club president Florentino Perez to restore discipline and stability within the squad.
The club endured internal challenges last season, including the departure of former coach Xabi Alonso in January and reports of dressing-room tensions involving midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde.
Madrid also struggled to find the right balance while accommodating attacking stars Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in the same starting lineup.
During his first spell at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho guided Real Madrid to domestic success while challenging Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona side.
The 63-year-old reiterated that working for Real Madrid carries a special responsibility and said he was determined to help restore the club’s competitive standards.
Real Madrid have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate.
