Uganda has officially been declared free of Ebola by the World Health Organization (WHO) after recording no new cases for 42 days.
The WHO said on Thursday that Uganda had reached the required 42-day period since the last confirmed imported Ebola case was discharged on July 16, 2026, with no evidence of onward transmission.
“Uganda has reached 42 days since the last confirmed imported Ebola case was discharged on 16 July 2026, with no documented onward transmission associated with the case, marking an end to the outbreak,” the WHO said.
The global health agency praised Uganda’s government, health workers and partners for their efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.
Uganda recorded 20 Ebola cases during the outbreak, most involving people who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Two people died from the disease.
