Polaris Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability with a tree-planting exercise at the Lekki Conservation Centre in Lagos, in partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
The exercise, held on Monday, forms part of the bank’s efforts to promote climate action, environmental conservation and sustainable community development.
It builds on Polaris Bank’s nationwide tree-planting initiative launched in 2024, which has recorded the planting of 10,000 trees across 16 locations in the Federal Capital Territory and 13 states.
Speaking at the event, Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director, Corporate and Investment Banking at Polaris Bank, said sustainability remained central to the bank’s operations and community engagement initiatives.
“At Polaris Bank, sustainability is not a slogan, it is a principle that guides our daily actions. It is about transforming bold commitments into measurable impact. Each of these trees represents more than just a number; they stand for communities empowered, degraded lands restored, and livelihoods supported,” she said.
Ozomah described the partnership with the NCF as another milestone in the bank’s sustainability drive, noting that planting economic trees offers benefits beyond climate change mitigation.
According to her, the initiative can improve soil fertility, increase vegetation cover and create potential income-generating opportunities for communities as the trees mature.
She also stressed the need for collective responsibility in environmental conservation, urging employees, partners and other stakeholders to support efforts towards a sustainable future.
“The power of small actions, when multiplied, creates extraordinary change. As we put these seedlings into the ground, let us commit to nurturing them and, in so doing, nurturing the future we all desire. Together, let us grow a greener, stronger, and more sustainable Nigeria,” she added.
The exercise highlights Polaris Bank’s continued support for initiatives aimed at strengthening climate resilience, restoring ecosystems and promoting community development.
Through its nationwide tree-planting programme and partnerships with organisations such as the NCF, the bank said it would continue to encourage collective action to protect the environment and promote sustainability for future generations.
