JMG Limited has called for stronger quality standards in Nigeria’s energy sector, stressing the need for safe, reliable and efficient equipment to support the country’s transition to cleaner and more affordable energy.

The company made the call during its participation in the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) 2026 World Standards Day Walk in Lagos on Saturday, October 17.

Members of JMG’s Production Team joined the exercise to promote quality standards and highlight their role in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), which seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable and modern energy for all.

Held under the theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy,” the walk began at 7:30 a.m. at the SON Laboratory Complex in Ogba, Lagos.

The event highlighted the importance of standards in ensuring product safety, improving performance, protecting consumers and supporting industrial development.

JMG said access to energy must be complemented by the quality and reliability of the equipment used in homes, businesses and industrial facilities. It noted that solar energy systems, power generation equipment, electrical infrastructure and cooling solutions require sound engineering, proper installation and consistent quality control to deliver optimal performance.

Speaking at the event, Fouad El Chami, Plant Manager, JMG/Jamara, said quality standards should remain central to manufacturing and product delivery.

“Standards are not just requirements to be met; they help ensure that products are safe, dependable and fit for purpose. Quality must be considered from the beginning of the production process because it influences how a product performs and how confidently people can rely on it,” he said.

El Chami noted that maintaining quality standards would be essential to ensuring that investments in cleaner energy solutions deliver lasting benefits as Nigeria expands access to sustainable power.

He added that affordability should be balanced with reliability, safety and performance, stressing that energy equipment must meet appropriate quality requirements and be suitable for its intended use.

JMG provides integrated electromechanical solutions across power generation, electrical infrastructure, cooling systems, elevators and escalators, and air compressors.

The company said its participation in the World Standards Day Walk reflected its support for SON’s efforts to strengthen quality practices across Nigerian industries and promote consumer confidence.

It added that manufacturers, solution providers and other stakeholders must recognise quality standards as essential to sustainable development and the delivery of dependable energy solutions.

As Nigeria pursues its clean energy ambitions, JMG stressed that expanding access must go hand in hand with ensuring that the equipment and systems deployed are safe, reliable and capable of delivering their intended performance.
