ADC Warns Against Peter Obi Returning to PDP

By Ayomide Otitoju

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ruled out the possibility of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such a move would pose significant political risks.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said Obi remains a key figure within the ADC-led political coalition.

“Peter Obi is in the coalition,” Abdullahi stated, dismissing reports that the PDP is lobbying the former Anambra governor to rejoin the party. He argued that recent PDP activity was largely spurred by ADC’s growing influence but insisted the PDP remains under the control of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abdullahi added, “Peter Obi, more than anyone else, knows that he cannot take the risk of going to the PDP.”

Obi defected from the PDP to the Labour Party shortly before the 2023 elections, gaining massive youth support and reshaping the political narrative. As the 2027 polls approach, conversations around potential alliances and defections are intensifying.
