The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and barred him from all party activities for 30 years, citing impersonation, political trading, and destabilizing conduct.
In a statement on Monday, SDP National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba said El-Rufai falsely claimed to have joined the party and used its platform for political maneuvering without undergoing proper registration.
An internal probe revealed that El-Rufai never completed the mandatory ward-level registration, forged documents, and falsely listed himself as “Number 001” in the ward register of his local chapter.
The party accused El-Rufai of using its name to align with an unauthorized coalition, funding dissident factions, and promoting another party while pretending to be an SDP member.
Citing Articles 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the party constitution, the SDP declared El-Rufai expelled both nationally and internationally, effective July 28, 2025, with a ban extending to July 28, 2055.
