AfrexInsure Appoints Lesley Ndlovu as CEO

By Ayomide Otitoju

African Export-Import Bank’s specialty insurance subsidiary, AfrexInsure, has appointed Lesley Ndlovu as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 2026, succeeding Jonas Mushosho.

The appointment comes as AfrexInsure seeks to strengthen its position in providing tailored insurance solutions for trade and trade-related investments across Africa, marking a key phase in its transition from start-up to growth stage.

Ndlovu, a Zimbabwean insurance executive, brings extensive experience from leading global institutions, including AXA Specialty, African Risk Capacity and AXIS Capital. His expertise spans governance, underwriting, risk management and product development in complex specialty insurance markets.

AfrexInsure said the leadership change is expected to enhance its capacity to deliver innovative, locally anchored risk mitigation solutions, addressing longstanding challenges such as limited insurance capacity, high costs and dependence on offshore underwriting in Africa’s trade sector.

Commenting on his appointment, Ndlovu said he was honoured to lead the company at a transformative period, noting that AfrexInsure plays a critical role in addressing gaps in Africa’s trade risk ecosystem.

President and Chairman of Afreximbank, George Elombi, expressed confidence in Ndlovu’s ability to advance the company’s mandate of strengthening local insurance capacity and retaining premiums within the continent.

The appointment underscores AfrexInsure’s strategic role within the Afreximbank Group, as the continent increasingly looks to specialty insurance solutions to de-risk investments, support industrialisation and drive economic growth.
