Airtel Africa Foundation, through Airtel Nigeria, has launched the Undergraduate Tech Scholarship Programme to support 100 Nigerian students pursuing degrees in information and communication technology (ICT) fields.
Announcing the initiative at a world press conference in Lagos, Airtel Africa Chairman, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, said the scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, study materials, and stipends from the first to the final year, aimed at removing financial barriers and fostering academic excellence.
According to the Foundation, the scheme targets 100-level students in approved ICT programmes at public universities, including the University of Lagos, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Benin, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ilorin, and Tai Solarin University of Education. Eligible courses include Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, and related fields.
Ogunsanya described the initiative as part of Airtel’s broader effort to nurture Africa’s next generation of technology leaders.
“Our vision has always been to create opportunities where talent meets ambition. With this scholarship, we are investing in Nigeria’s future tech leaders and giving them the confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” he said.
Airtel Nigeria CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, added that the programme reinforces the company’s long-standing commitment to education as a core pillar of its corporate social responsibility.
“These scholarships complement our ongoing projects such as the UNICEF Reimagine Education initiative, the Adopt-A-School programme, and our ₦1 billion contribution to the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent project,” Balsingh said.
