President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday represented Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of key infrastructure projects in Lagos, including the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge.
Other projects unveiled were the Multi-Agency Complex and the Lagos Geographic Information System (LAGIS) building in Alausa, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex.
Speaking at the event, Akpabio said the 5.04-kilometre Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge would significantly ease traffic congestion, enhance economic activities, and reduce travel time for commuters.
“More than just a road; it is a bridge to opportunity. In Lagos, movement is everything. When traffic improves, productivity grows, and lives get better,” he said.
He added that the LAGIS facility represents the future of governance, noting that efficient data systems are critical to economic development. “These projects align with our national vision of a modern, digitally enabled, and economically strong Nigeria, and must be replicated across the country,” he said.
Akpabio also commended Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s infrastructural drive and urged residents to safeguard public assets.
The event was attended by several state governors, including Dapo Abiodun, Douye Diri, Hope Uzodinma, and Babagana Zulum, alongside members of the National and State Assemblies and leaders of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) led by Tajudeen Olusi.
Although President Tinubu was initially scheduled to personally inaugurate the projects, no official reason was given for his absence as of the time of filing this report.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge would ease pressure on major traffic corridors and improve mobility across the state.
“Now we have a brand-new bridge providing a direct connection from Opebi-Allen to Ikorodu Road through the Odo Iya-Alaro and Mende corridor, creating a viable alternative route,” he said.
According to the governor, the project will reduce congestion along key routes such as Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Kudirat Abiola Road, and the Maryland axis, ultimately improving residents’ quality of life.
“It will reduce stress, boost productivity, and allow Lagosians to spend more time with their families rather than in traffic,” he added.
