Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central is expected to return to the Senate later this month following the expiration of her six-month suspension.
Her counsel, Victor Giwa, confirmed that she would rejoin her colleagues when the National Assembly reconvenes on September 23.
“She’s ready to resume her term. She’s currently in London, but everything is in place, and the six months have expired. The only thing left is her resumption,” Giwa said. He added that Senate leadership had also indicated readiness to welcome her back.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6 for alleged insubordination, a move she described as politically motivated after petitioning Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment—an allegation dismissed by the Senate.
In July, her attempt to return was thwarted by security operatives, but Giwa expressed confidence that this time, no obstacles would arise. “Everything will be resolved. Even the court cases will become like an academic exercise,” he stated.
