The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has adopted Bimbo Adekanmbi as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.
The adoption was announced during the party’s governorship and legislative primary elections held on Thursday at the Watershed Event Centre along Old Ife Road in Ibadan.
Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Chairman of the APM, Otunba Adegbenro Fagbemi, expressed confidence that the alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM would produce positive results for Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
Adekanmbi, alongside the party’s senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates, was presented to party members and stakeholders, who ratified them as consensus candidates.
Presenting certificates of return to the candidates, Fagbemi described Adekanmbi as a bridge builder capable of sustaining the developmental strides of Governor Seyi Makinde and delivering quality governance to residents of the state.
In his acceptance speech, Adekanmbi assured residents that his administration would sustain the Omituntun agenda of the current government.
He pledged continued development across all parts of the state and promised to prioritise the security of lives and property.
Adekanmbi also appealed for unity among party leaders, stakeholders and supporters, stressing that the progress of Oyo State should take precedence over personal ambitions and political interests.
According to him, achieving greater development in the state would require collective sacrifice, cooperation and commitment from all stakeholders.
He also appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his support, friendship and political partnership, noting that the governor’s contributions to the development and democratic growth of Oyo State would remain significant in the state’s history.
In separate goodwill messages, Chairman of the Oyo State Elders’ Council, Dr. Saka Balogun, Iba Oluyole, Oloye Nureni Akanbi and Chief Eniade Elejire urged residents to support all APM candidates in the 2027 elections.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal; former Deputy Governor, Engr. Hamid Gbadamosi; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi; Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Adeniyi; Chairman of All Chairmen in Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, as well as commissioners, lawmakers, party leaders and local government chairmen.
