The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has formally ended discussions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) after both parties failed to agree on terms for a potential political realignment.
The state PDP Chairman, Sama’ila Burga, disclosed this on Saturday during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Bauchi.
Burga said the talks, initiated by the APC, did not yield results as the ruling party declined to meet conditions set by the PDP, despite high-level engagements involving Governor Bala Mohammed, senior party officials, the Vice President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and three former governors.
He noted that the PDP participated in the discussions in good faith, emphasising that Governor Mohammed’s involvement was driven by a commitment to dialogue and inclusiveness.
Addressing one of the key sticking points, Burga confirmed that the APC rejected a proposed power-sharing formula, which he described as a standard arrangement in similar political transitions across the country.
Following consultations with stakeholders, he said it became evident that the APC leadership was unwilling to accept the terms, leading to the formal termination of the talks.
Burga added that the PDP in Bauchi State is now exploring alternative political options, in consultation with Governor Mohammed and other stakeholders, to determine the most viable path forward in the interest of the state’s residents.
