Jill Biden, the wife of U.S. President Joe Biden, bid farewell to visiting First Ladies from across the globe, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Hosting the First Ladies at a farewell lunch, Biden described the gathering as deeply impactful, noting that it would be her last such event as U.S. First Lady.
Reflecting on the bonds formed through their shared commitment to promoting peace and development, Jill Biden emphasized that these relationships would continue beyond January 2025, when she is set to step down from her role. “I appreciate you all for always coming to this gathering. I have a great feeling that I will be seeing more of you in my next chapter of life,” Biden said, as quoted in a statement by Busola Kukoyi, media aide to First Lady Tinubu.
The luncheon, held at Pier 57 in New York, was part of a series of events on the sidelines of UNGA, providing world leaders and their spouses opportunities to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster partnerships.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, attended the lunch as one of her final engagements marking her participation in this year’s UNGA.
