Max Verstappen has signed a new long-term contract with Red Bull Racing, ending speculation over his future in Formula 1.
The new deal will keep the four-time world champion with Red Bull until at least the end of 2030, when he will be 33 years old. His previous contract was due to expire at the end of 2028.
Verstappen’s management had reportedly held talks with McLaren earlier this year over a potential move for the 2027 season. However, the Dutch driver has now committed his future to Red Bull for another four-and-a-half seasons.
The agreement is also expected to prevent any driver changes among Formula 1’s current top four teams — Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull — for the 2027 season.
“I am really pleased with the contract extension. We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again,” Verstappen said.
The 28-year-old is currently sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, 110 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli, ahead of this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix.
Verstappen said his relationship with Red Bull was a major factor in his decision to remain with the team.
“I have always said it: The team is like a second family for me and I feel very at home,” he said.
“I came to the team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply lovely and we have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships.”
Verstappen won four consecutive drivers’ titles between 2021 and 2024 and came within two points of securing a fifth championship in 2025 despite Red Bull’s machinery being considered inferior to McLaren’s.
His future with the team had come under scrutiny earlier this season after he expressed concerns about the new 2026 power-unit regulations. In March, Verstappen admitted he was considering his future in the sport.
However, changes to the power-unit regulations, along with improvements to Red Bull’s performance and reliability, have eased some of those concerns.
Verstappen also had an exit clause that could have allowed him to leave Red Bull for the 2027 season if he was outside the top two positions in the Drivers’ Championship at the start of the summer break.
Despite having the option to depart, he has opted to continue with Red Bull.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies welcomed the decision, describing Verstappen’s continued commitment as “fantastic news” for the team and Formula 1.
“Very few partnerships in sport achieve what Max and this team have,” Mekies said.
“His impact on our team and on Red Bull’s motorsport story has been transformational, and he has been fundamental to everything we have accomplished together.”
Mekies added that the partnership was built on trust and a shared vision, saying Red Bull remained determined to win more races and championships with Verstappen.
