Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have sustained a major offensive against armed groups in Taraba State, recording significant breakthroughs that include the destruction of bandits’ camps, recovery of weapons, and the arrest of a key suspect.
The latest operations, carried out under Operation Zafin Wuta, followed credible intelligence on the activities of criminal elements in the Tor-Tser axis of Takum Local Government Area. On 2 December, troops conducted clearance operations across Shiid, Agia and Tyozua communities, forcing bandits to abandon their camps and flee into the mountainous terrain. The soldiers searched and subsequently destroyed the hideouts, which had been considered difficult for security forces to access.
During the operation, the fleeing bandits set fire to a wooden bridge in Tyozua to slow down advancing troops, but soldiers pressed on and pushed them across the power line into neighbouring Benue State. One suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested and is currently undergoing investigation.
In a separate operation on 4 December, troops on a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido came under fire from bandits concealed behind the Wudompi community. The soldiers returned fire, neutralising two attackers. A search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition. No troop casualties were recorded. The attackers are believed to be members of the Karimjo faction attempting to regroup in the area.
Commander 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, hailed the troops for their professionalism and courage, noting that the recent successes reaffirm the Army’s capability to operate in any terrain. He assured residents of Taraba State that the Brigade remains committed to pursuing criminal elements and restoring lasting peace in the region.
