Leaders of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) have called for repentance, unity, and renewed commitment to faith during Good Friday observances held at the church’s National Headquarters in Makoko, Lagos.
Chairman of the Easter Committee 2026, Evangelist Solomon Jegede, described Good Friday as a solemn occasion marking the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity. He said the service was designed to encourage deep reflection and spiritual redirection among members.
Jegede urged congregants to reassess their lives, noting that Christ’s sacrifice should inspire believers to turn away from sin and embrace righteousness. He also expressed concern over what he described as a departure from the teachings and principles of the church’s founders, attributing current challenges to disobedience and declining spiritual discipline.
He further called for unity among Christians and across religious divides in Nigeria, stressing that living a Christ-like life remains central to salvation. Addressing the country’s security challenges, he appealed for love, unity, and collective responsibility, while expressing hope for divine intervention.
In a similar vein, Samuel Ademola Bolaji described Good Friday as a time for believers to align with the teachings of Christ, urging both leaders and members to resolve internal conflicts. He warned that persistent divisions have weakened the church community.
Medical Outreach Reaches Thousands
A large-scale medical outreach formed a key part of the Good Friday activities, providing healthcare services to thousands of worshippers.
Joseph Onyano said the initiative, organised by the Lifestyle Initiatives team, catered to an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 attendees. He noted that the outreach offered free medical checks, medications, and referrals, with a focus on non-communicable diseases alongside general health support.
Food and refreshments were also distributed, particularly to congregants observing the Good Friday fast.
Call for Spiritual Revival
Also speaking, Oluwashagun Joshua Oluwafunlayo underscored the spiritual significance of the Easter season, urging members to return to the foundational doctrines of the church. He warned that neglect of these principles has contributed to a decline in spiritual strength within the church.
Health Advisory
Medical practitioner Dr. Femi Rene called on Nigerians to prioritise regular health checks, citing the high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes detected during the outreach. He emphasised that early diagnosis remains critical in preventing severe health complications and advocated increased investment in the healthcare sector.
