A tragedy has struck Ogooluwa Community, Slide Ibogun, in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, after a shepherd of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 31, reportedly following a domestic dispute between the couple, identified as Bidemi Odukoya and his wife.
Odukoya, the shepherd of the Iri Orun Parish of the CCC, allegedly attacked his wife at their three-bedroom bungalow located beside the church and fatally injured her.
Residents said the incident occurred around 2 a.m., after which Odukoya reportedly fled the community towards Cooker Junction along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
He was said to have later thrown himself in front of a moving truck, resulting in his death.
The couple, who were parents to three boys, were reportedly buried on the same day beside their home.
When our correspondent visited the community on Thursday, the area remained subdued, with residents still struggling to come to terms with the incident.
Residents said the couple had lived in the community for about nine to 10 years and were regarded as friendly and respectful.
The Baale of the community, Chief Taiwo Akiode, said the incident had left residents shocked and mourning.
“This incident is the first that will occur in this kind of environment. It is a tragedy that no one saw coming,” Akiode said.
He added that the incident had shocked residents because such an occurrence was considered unimaginable within the community.
