No fewer than 25 people have lost their lives, and several others are hospitalized following a cholera outbreak in Sokoto North, Silame, and Kware local government areas of Sokoto State.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Asabe Balarabe, disclosed this to journalists in Sokoto, confirming that 15 active cases are currently being treated in the affected areas.
“These cases were diagnosed through laboratory tests based on culture and sensitivity, confirming them as active cholera cases,” Balarabe stated.
The commissioner revealed that a total of 1,160 people have been affected by the outbreak, with 25 fatalities recorded so far.
To contain the situation, the state government, in collaboration with rescue teams, has intensified efforts to manage the outbreak and prevent further spread.
Dr. Balarabe described the government’s response as prompt and effective, noting that medication and essential drugs have already been distributed across 18 local government areas as part of the intervention.
“The state government is working tirelessly to manage this situation and forestall any further spread of the disease,” she assured.
