Court Fixes April 14 for El-Rufai Bail Ruling

By Ayomide Otitoju

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has fixed April 14, 2026, to deliver its ruling on the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, both the defence and prosecution presented final arguments on the application. Counsel to El-Rufai, Iyamu Oyewole, argued that bail is a constitutional right, noting that his client has strong ties within Nigeria and poses no flight risk.

However, the prosecution opposed the request, citing concerns that the former governor could influence witnesses or interfere with ongoing investigations if granted bail.

After hearing both parties, the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, adjourned the matter, stating that a ruling would be delivered on April 14.

El-Rufai remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission pending the court’s decision. He is facing charges related to alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory arrived at the court premises at about 9 a.m. under tight security, as observers and political stakeholders gathered ahead of the proceedings.
