Court Orders Bail Withdrawal for Sowore

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the bail earlier granted to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, over his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.

Justice Mohammed Umar made the ruling on Tuesday after the defendant failed to attend proceedings despite being aware of the scheduled hearing.

Prosecution counsel, Kehinde Akinlolu, informed the court that Sowore was absent without justification and urged the court to revoke his bail, alleging repeated attempts to delay the trial.

In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that although Sowore had submitted a letter seeking an adjournment, no reason was provided to justify his absence.

The judge subsequently revoked the bail and adjourned the case until June 22 for hearing.
