Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has proclaimed himself the greatest player in history, ranking himself above long-time rival Lionel Messi, Argentina’s Diego Maradona, and Brazilian legend Pelé.
The debate over football’s Greatest of All Time (GOAT) has dominated discussions for years, with Ronaldo and Messi at the forefront. Between them, they have won 13 Ballon d’Or titles—five for Ronaldo and eight for Messi. Their legacies are often compared to those of Pelé, who won three World Cups, and Maradona, who famously led Argentina to victory in 1986.
However, in a recent interview with Spanish outlet La Sexta, the Al-Nassr forward confidently stated that he surpasses all three.
“I think I’m the most complete player there has ever been. That’s my opinion. It could be a question of taste, but I think it’s me,” Ronaldo said. “I do everything in football. I head well, I take set pieces well, I shoot well with my left foot, I’m fast, I’m strong, I jump.”
While acknowledging that preferences may vary, Ronaldo insisted that his all-around abilities set him apart.
“Taste is one thing—you might prefer Messi, Pelé, or Maradona—I respect that. But to say that Cristiano isn’t complete is a lie,” he added. “I’m the most complete. I don’t see anyone better than me, and I say that with all my heart.”
Chasing 1,000 Goals
At 39, Ronaldo remains one of the most prolific goal scorers in football history. Currently playing in the Saudi Pro League, he is closing in on an unprecedented milestone of 1,000 career goals.
Having already netted 923 times in 1,261 appearances for club and country, he remains confident that his legacy is unmatched.
“Even if I score 920, 925, or 930 goals, the best in history is me,” he declared. “Period.”
Ronaldo’s illustrious career has seen him play for Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, winning multiple league titles and Champions League trophies along the way.
