The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has addressed reports on its ongoing internal reorganisation, stressing that the exercise is a necessary measure to safeguard operations against repeated acts of sabotage.
In a statement, the company said the restructuring is aimed at protecting the refinery from safety risks and operational inefficiencies linked to sabotage across various units. It noted that the decision was taken in the best interest of the facility, describing the incidents as posing “dire consequences on human life and related safety concerns.”
The refinery emphasised its vigilance in addressing vulnerabilities to ensure the long-term stability of what it described as a strategic national asset. “It is imperative to protect the refinery for the benefit of Nigerians, our partners across Africa, and the thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on it,” the statement read.
Currently, over 3,000 Nigerians are employed at the refinery. The company clarified that only a small number of staff were affected by the reorganisation and that recruitment continues through graduate trainee programmes and experienced hires.
Dangote Refinery also reaffirmed its adherence to internationally recognised labour principles, including workers’ freedom to join unions, stressing that its commitment to employee rights remains firm.
Reiterating its broader mission, the company said the refinery exists to serve Nigerians, strengthen Africa’s energy independence, and create sustainable jobs while working with employees, regulators, and stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of safety, transparency, and accountability.
