Despite a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund achieved record revenue of €509.1 million (£442 million) for the last season, marking the highest turnover in the club’s history. The 24 percent increase from the previous year was driven by an unexpected run to the Champions League final, where Dortmund lost 2-0 to Real Madrid, as well as higher TV revenue and merchandising.
Club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke described the announcement as one of his most satisfying during his 20 years at the helm. The actual revenue figure is likely higher, given Dortmund’s sale of English midfielder Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for €103 million during the reporting period.
Dortmund, the only German club listed on the stock market, also revealed they will pay a dividend of six cents per share in light of the record results. The club remains committed to the 50+1 rule, which ensures member control and restricts external investment.
