Operatives from the Enugu State Police Command’s Unity Division successfully thwarted a suspected kidnapping attempt on October 28, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m. near the Neke-Uno area of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road. Following an intense exchange of gunfire, the suspects fled the scene, leaving behind one AK-47 rifle, two magazines containing a total of 22 rounds, and 39 live ammunition.
Subsequent operations that night resulted in the escape of a university lecturer who had reportedly been kidnapped on October 26, 2024, at the hands of the abductors.
The police command also addressed viral reports regarding the alleged kidnapping of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer traveling from Benue State, stating that no such incident has been recorded within Enugu State. Officials emphasized that claims suggesting the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road is unsafe for travel are baseless and should be dismissed as unfounded scaremongering.
In response to these incidents, Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu has mandated the deployment of additional personnel and resources to enhance both overt and covert operations along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road, assuring the public of their safety and security throughout the region.
