First City Monument Bank (FCMB), in partnership with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, has successfully restored the vision of approximately 150,000 visually impaired Nigerians in Kebbi State through its “Priceless Gift of Sight” initiative.
Launched in 2009, the program provides free eye tests, optical services, and surgeries across all 21 local government areas in Kebbi. The initiative aims to improve quality of life and restore sight to those affected by preventable blindness.
At a recent event in Birnin-Kebbi marking the initiative’s 15th anniversary, Hajiya Idris, wife of Kebbi State Governor, praised FCMB’s commitment to addressing preventable blindness. “We are deeply grateful to FCMB and Tulsi Chanrai for their significant contribution. This initiative has empowered individuals to lead productive lives by restoring their vision,” she said.
Diran Olojo, FCMB’s Group Head of Corporate Affairs, emphasized the bank’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society. “This program represents empowerment and inclusivity. Since its inception, over 400,000 Nigerians across various states have benefited from this initiative. Our partnership with Tulsi Chanrai has been instrumental in preventing avoidable blindness,” Olojo stated.
Beneficiary Muhammad Maganda shared his personal story, stating, “I felt helpless as my vision deteriorated, but thanks to this program, I regained my sight and can return to farming. I am forever grateful to FCMB and the medical team.”
Another beneficiary, Fatima Abdullahi, expressed her joy and gratitude, saying, “My sight and life have been restored. The entire treatment was free, and I am overwhelmed with joy. May Allah bless FCMB for helping me return to a normal life.”
In recognition of its efforts, FCMB recently received dual honours at the Development Bank of Nigeria 2024 Annual Lecture Series and Awards.
