Fidelity Bank Plc has donated more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative as part of efforts to support vulnerable households and alleviate hunger.
The distribution exercise was held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, under the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme.
Speaking at the event, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank, said the bank had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since the initiative was launched in 2023.
Jemirin said the programme supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition.
“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development,” he said.
He added that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta also cover education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community development initiatives.
“This initiative is about more than distributing food items. It is about restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families, and providing meaningful support that contributes to their well-being,” Jemirin said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, thanked Fidelity Bank for its support for vulnerable members of the community.
He said the initiative demonstrated the bank’s commitment to community development and its willingness to partner with institutions to provide social support.
Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has provided food support to vulnerable households across Nigeria through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders.
The bank said the initiative would continue to support efforts aimed at reducing hunger and promoting social welfare across the country.
