Fidelity Bank Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to health and social welfare with the donation of food items and essential supplies to inmates at the Enugu Maximum Security Custodial Centre.
The outreach was carried out by the bank’s newly inducted Legacy Class of 2026 under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the Fidelity Helping Hands Project, which empowers staff to identify community needs, raise funds, and receive matching support from management to execute impactful projects.
Items donated included garri, spaghetti, noodles, biscuits, milk, and other consumables aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of over 3,000 inmates at the facility.
Speaking during the visit, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, described the initiative as integral to the bank’s culture of promoting compassion and social responsibility among its workforce. He noted that the intervention was informed by the pressing needs of the custodial centre, particularly in providing daily meals for inmates.
Nwagboh added that the bank remains committed to nurturing socially responsible professionals, stressing that such initiatives help employees engage with real societal challenges and contribute meaningfully beyond the workplace.
In his response, the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Dr. Sunday Igwe, commended the bank for its timely intervention, noting that the donation would help ease some of the operational pressures faced by the facility.
Igwe also urged Nigerians, especially young professionals, to steer clear of criminal activities such as fraud and cybercrime, warning that personal choices often carry significant consequences.
The Fidelity Helping Hands Project remains a flagship CSR platform of the bank, driving employee-led interventions that support inclusive development across Nigeria.
