Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women in leadership positions to leverage their offices to empower other women through mentorship and economic opportunities.
She made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the Forum of Female Chief Executive Officers of Government Agencies and Organizations at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Describing the CEOs as “trailblazers,” Senator Tinubu stressed the importance of grooming younger women.
“Birth yourselves in others. Look for them to mentor them. Replicate yourself in other women, and that is the way we would be strong,” she said. “Make yourselves unforgettable by the things you do outside your office.”
The First Lady referenced icons such as Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo, Gambo Sawaba, and Abibat Mogaji, urging women leaders to unite, speak out, and create opportunities through scholarships and targeted support.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to education, highlighting her call for partnerships to complete the National Library project, which she said would serve indigent students nationwide.
Responding on behalf of the delegation, the Director-General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended Senator Tinubu for her advocacy and pledged the forum’s support.
“As a group, Your Excellency, we do not take our mandates lightly. We commend your Renewed Hope Initiatives and affirm our commitment to support your programs,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
Twenty-four female CEOs of government agencies and organizations attended the meeting.
