FirstBank has announced its sponsorship of the inaugural 2026 SPIN Sustainability Conference, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable finance, responsible business practices and long-term value creation.
The conference, organised by the Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria (SPIN), is scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, under the theme, “The Adaptive Enterprise: Sustainability Strategies for Challenging Times.”
The event is expected to bring together sustainability professionals, business leaders, policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, academics and development partners to discuss strategies for building resilient and adaptable organisations amid economic, environmental and social challenges.
FirstBank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Alebiosu, will serve as the Guest Speaker, while the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Aminu Umar Sadiq, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Other speakers include Biyi Olagbami, Executive Director, Risk Directorate, FirstBank, and Ibrahim Shelleng, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement.
Alebiosu said sustainability remained central to FirstBank’s efforts to build institutional resilience and create long-term value for its stakeholders.
He said the bank’s support for the conference was part of its broader commitment to promoting responsible business practices and dialogue around sustainable development.
According to him, collaboration among businesses, government and other stakeholders is important to advancing economic growth, social inclusion and environmental responsibility.
FirstBank, an institutional member of SPIN, said its sponsorship aligns with its wider sustainability agenda, which includes financial inclusion, economic empowerment and corporate governance.
The President of SPIN, Professor Kenneth Amaeshi, said the conference would support the institute’s efforts to promote sustainability as a core element of organisational leadership rather than merely a compliance requirement.
Participants at the conference are expected to discuss adaptive leadership, resilient business models, sustainable finance, ESG reporting, climate resilience, innovation, corporate governance and long-term value creation.
The conference follows the induction of 79 new sustainability professionals into SPIN in June 2026, as the institute expands its professional community focused on sustainability leadership and practice in Africa.
