Five people, including a child, were killed on Friday in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, according to state-run media.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that an Israeli drone targeted a house in the town of Aita al-Jabal with two guided missiles, resulting in the deaths of two people, one of whom was a 7-year-old child. Earlier, three people were killed in an Israeli strike on the town of Tayer Harfa, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
The pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement confirmed the deaths of three of its fighters but did not specify where or when they were killed. However, Lebanese security sources indicated that the fighters died in the strike on Tayer Harfa.
The Israeli army acknowledged the strike, stating that it had “eliminated” a terrorist cell planning to launch projectiles from Tayer Harfa into Israeli territory.
In retaliation, Hezbollah claimed to have targeted surveillance equipment at Meron Air Base in northern Israel.
The strikes come amid ongoing military confrontations between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, as well as other groups in the border area, following the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip. Casualties have been reported on both sides, with most of the deaths being members of Hezbollah.
