France is preparing to air-drop humanitarian aid into Gaza in the coming days amid warnings of escalating famine in the war-torn enclave, a diplomatic source confirmed on Tuesday.
The move comes as UN-backed experts raised alarms over worsening hunger in Gaza following more than 21 months of conflict, triggered by Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel.
The source said the airdrops will be carried out “with the greatest care” to avoid endangering civilians, but stressed that airborne aid cannot replace more efficient land deliveries. Paris renewed calls on Israel to open land crossings for sustained humanitarian access.
“France is also working on land deliveries, by far the most effective solution,” the source said, adding that the current restrictions are obstructing critical aid.
Meanwhile, Germany has pledged to partner with Jordan to coordinate a humanitarian airlift to Gaza, working closely with France and the United Kingdom.
