Supporters of embattled Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have expressed renewed optimism that the governor will soon be reinstated, citing their belief in President Bola Tinubu’s democratic credentials and commitment to the state’s stability.
The show of solidarity came during a series of Easter praise sessions organized by the Simplified Movement, held simultaneously across all 23 local government areas of the state. The gatherings featured singing, dancing, and collective prayers, offering both spiritual reflection and a platform to rally behind the governor.
Speaking at the Ahoada session, a leading figure in the movement, Stephen Ihua-Maduenyi, drew inspiration from the Christian message of Easter, linking it to the governor’s political situation.
“Today is Easter Sunday. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, is resurrected. We are here to celebrate that and to pray that just as He rose, our governor will rise again and return to lead us. We believe only God can do it for us,” he said.
Also addressing the media during the event, suspended Commissioner for Education, Ovy Chukwuma, likened the political tensions in Rivers to a resurrection story.
“They tried to bury us in Rivers State, but today we declare to the world: we are alive. Rivers State is alive. Rivers State is with Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” Chukwuma told Channels Television.
Both speakers expressed strong confidence in President Tinubu, suggesting that his current actions are part of a broader strategy aimed at restoring peace and constitutional order in the state.
“We trust in the President’s wisdom. We believe he is acting in the best interest of Rivers State and that he will ensure justice is served,” Ihua-Maduenyi added.
Supporters of the Simplified Movement say they remain undeterred by recent political setbacks and continue to pray for what they describe as the “resurrection of political stability” in the state.
Governor Fubara’s tenure has been marked by high political tension and internal party disputes, with calls from various quarters for intervention to restore calm and unity in the state’s leadership.
