In a bid to shun religious intolerance among Africans, The National Chief Imam in the Office of the Republic of Ghana has organised hundred-day lectures for teaching and enlightenment of the followers of Islam and Christianity to understand the unity in both religions.
Speaking during the lecture, the national vice president of The Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, noted that there are more things that unite the Muslims and Christians than those that divide them. He explained the relationship that religions have, saying: “Between Muslims and Christians, there is more that unites us than divides us. We worship the same God, who is Allah, The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.
“The two religions believe that Jesus was born of a Virgin Mary. We revere Mary so much that she is the only female that is directly mentioned by name in the Qur’an and not only that but a whole chapter in the Qur’an is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
“Indeed, there are more mentions of Mary in the holy Qur’an than in the whole New Testament. We all believe in the miracles of Jesus Christ and, as Muslims and Christians, we all believe that Jesus will come back before the Day of Judgement to defeat the false prophet and the anti-Christ.
“Among what we believe in, the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) told us that among all the religions in the world, we Muslims should be closest to Christianity because they are good people.
“So, today, If you are a Muslim and you don’t like Christian, it means you don’t understand Islam. Also, if you are a Christian and don’t like Muslims, it means you don’t understand Christianity.
“There is more that unites us than divides us through religion. But we allow people like a terrorist who hides under religion to perpetrate their evil to divide us. We in Ghana are lucky.”
