The Glo Foundation, through its “Giving Back Together” initiative, provided food items and household essentials to thousands of women in Warri, Delta State, on Saturday. The outreach, held at Urhobo College, formed part of Globacom’s special intervention programme aimed at supporting vulnerable groups amid prevailing economic challenges.
Beneficiaries—many of them widows and elderly women—came from communities across Warri North, Warri South, Aladja, Ughelli South, Udu, and Uvwie local government areas. Some began arriving as early as the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise to take advantage of the scheme.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Globacom’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, said the initiative had previously reached women in other states and was now extended to Delta. “The Food Drive is not just for anyone. It is targeted at the most vulnerable segment of the Nigerian society, that is women and children. When we help them, we are helping the society at large,” she explained.
Each food pack contained 5kg of rice, 5kg of garri, semovita, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, sardines, seasoning cubes, noodles, and other household staples.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture. Princess Omo-Udoyo from Ughelli North said, “I have not seen this before. I thank God and Glo Foundation for this gift.” Similarly, Mrs. Esther Okoro from Otu Jeremi in Ughelli South offered prayers for the company: “God will lift the company and the people who have done this. They will never lack anything.”
The Globacom Food Drive is scheduled to extend to other major cities across Nigeria in the coming months, bringing relief to more women and families.
