In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Glo Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Globacom, has announced a multimillion-naira initiative to encourage Nigerian girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Foundation unveiled the “Glo Innov8” National STEM Competition for Girls in Senior Secondary Schools across the country. Designed as a STEM-driven challenge, the competition offers prizes worth ₦5 million to schools and students with outstanding projects.
According to the organisers, the programme is aimed at inspiring young girls to “Compete, Innovate and Win,” while boosting their confidence and deepening their knowledge in STEM subjects.
“This is our modest way of celebrating and encouraging the girl child to focus on STEM studies and pursue careers in these fields in future, so they can become problem solvers for the country,” the Foundation said.
The school with the best project will receive ₦2 million, while each of the two students representing the school will be awarded a laptop. Their mentor or STEM coordinator will also receive ₦200,000. Consolation prizes will be presented to students and mentors from schools that place second and third.
Entries for the competition opened on Monday, September 15, and will close on October 5, 2025.
