Telecommunications giant Globacom has announced its sponsorship of the 2025 edition of the Ofala Festival, scheduled to hold in Onitsha, Anambra State, this October.
The annual cultural celebration, a customary rite performed by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, will span two days — Iru Ofala on October 17 and Azu Ofala on October 18.
Speaking at a press briefing held at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace, Onitsha, the Ofala Festival Organising Committee confirmed Globacom as the major sponsor. The company noted it has consistently supported the festival since 2011 in recognition of Nigeria’s cultural wealth and its potential to drive employment and revenue. Globacom further pledged to elevate the event onto the global tourism stage.
“In 2025, Nigeria’s tourism sector is projected to contribute ₦11.2 trillion to GDP, up from ₦10.9 trillion in 2024. These figures underscore a simple truth: culture and tourism are not luxuries, they are vital to our economy, identity, and future. Our support for Ofala reflects our belief that investment in culture builds communities, jobs, local businesses, and pride,” the company stated.
Globacom also announced tailored initiatives to delight its subscribers during the festivities, including enhanced 4G-LTE coverage across the South East. The company highlighted two recently launched offerings: Talkmasta, which provides extra talk time and data at no additional cost, and a Welcome Bonus package for new subscribers.
Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, outlined the festival programme, which will commence with the annual lecture on October 7, followed by the Oreze Art Exhibition, a youth carnival on October 15, a medical and wellbeing outreach, the Iru Ofala on October 17, Azu Ofala on October 18, and a Royal Banquet in honour of the Obi on October 22.
He assured that adequate measures were in place to guarantee a safe, colourful, and memorable celebration for participants and visitors.
