Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged police officers in the state to avoid exploiting the current political crisis for personal or political gain. Speaking at the inauguration and handover of 100 operational vehicles to the Rivers State Police Command at Sharks Football Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Fubara emphasized that officers are trained to protect lives and property and to maintain peace, not to engage in partisan activities.
The governor cautioned that any officer who chooses to be partisan could face long-term consequences. “I requested only one thing when you came into Rivers State: to do what is right and protect the lives and property of Rivers people without being partisan,” Fubara stated.
He warned officers against aligning with any political faction, stressing that such actions could harm their reputations and future. “Work in a way that, when your name is mentioned, you won’t feel ashamed,” he advised.
Governor Fubara also reminded the police to focus on their professional duties, ensuring they uphold the ethics of their profession by being fair and impartial, especially in the face of ongoing political tensions. “Politics will come and go, but the enmity you create by being partisan will last forever,” he concluded.
