Ibom Air has recorded more than 65,000 flights and transported nearly five million passengers since commencing operations in June 2019.
The airline’s Group Manager, Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Essienette said the airline had expanded its fleet to 10 aircraft, serving seven domestic destinations and one regional destination in West Africa.
She said Ibom Air’s operations had improved connectivity while supporting trade, investment, tourism and business travel.
Essienette congratulated the Akwa Ibom State Government and its people on the 39th anniversary of the state’s creation.
“Since its creation in 1987, Akwa Ibom has earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s forward-looking states through sustained investments,” she said.
She listed infrastructure, human capital, healthcare, education, aviation, tourism and economic development among the areas that had benefited from the state’s investments.
According to her, the airline was established by the state government to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity and demonstrate its capacity to build and sustain a world-class institution.
She added that Ibom Air also reflected the state government’s commitment to developing local talent and creating employment opportunities.
“Hundreds of Akwa Ibom people currently serve in leadership, flight operations, engineering, customer service, finance and technical roles within the airline,” Essienette said.
She said the airline’s economic impact extended beyond aviation, with related supply chain activities contributing more than N60 billion to the local economy.
