Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun convened a high-level meeting with experts and development consultants on November 27, 2024, at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Abuja. The session, part of ongoing efforts to improve police welfare, focused on accelerating the reconstruction of dilapidated police barracks nationwide.
The initiative builds on the Police Housing Summit held in April 2024 and aims to provide officers with quality living conditions to boost morale and operational efficiency.
Progress and Strategy
Senior police officers and stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Property Development and Construction Company, presented updates on redevelopment strategies. The IGP reiterated his commitment to ensuring timely and high-quality project completion, emphasizing that improved housing is vital for effective policing.
Affected officers have been provided with relocation assistance, including allowances and interim rent stipends. Once the new facilities are completed, they will be seamlessly transitioned back into upgraded housing units.
Welfare as Priority
The IGP stated that barracks reconstruction is a top priority under his administration, reflecting a broader strategy to enhance police welfare. “This initiative is critical to improving the living conditions of our officers and ensuring their commitment to maintaining law and order across Nigeria,” he said.
The meeting underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for its personnel, aligning with its mission to enhance service delivery and public safety.
